Just 4 more years to go for the 2020 Olympics, but the preparations for its arrival has already begun. For starters Japan got the ticket to host the next big Olympics in its popular city Tokyo. Apart from that, the logo for the event was also unveiled back in the mid of this year, 2015.
However, the new logo seems to attract more commotion over its design as it seems to be a plagiarized version of the logo of Belgian Theatre, Théâtre de Liège. Plus, it got challenged by a western designer, Zaricor, with a peculiar design which the designer has forwarded to the Olympic board for consideration.
The current logo is designed by a highly-talented and popular Japanese designer, Kenjiro Sano. The designer has proven his talent by producing designs for well-known companies like ReBORN, au LISMO, and many more.
Although Sano defended himself against the allegations regarding the plagiarism, the designer claims that he didn’t have any prior knowledge of the logo design. Some design critics give Sano the benefit of doubt claiming that the design is indeed too lean with common aesthetics. Therefore, the odds of having two designs look alike and to such an extreme extent can’t be ignored.
However, a week back the current 2020 Olympic logo design was challenged by a Zaricor, a western artist. Zaricor posted his own version of the new logo. Although the logo produced by Zaricor looks a bit eccentric, the details he gave on his Facebook page sounds quite lucid.
“The red sun slightly to the right or the east is self explanatory. While it serves as the sun and Japanese spirit it also symbolizes the flame in the Olympic torch.
Below is a great wave, dominated by the spirit of the sun. The wave is also in the shape of a T representing Tokyo and also symbolizing the torch itself in the style of Hokusai ukiyo-e from the 1800’s. Both these 3 meanings in the torch and the sun also relate to the 3 marks of existence, says Zaricor on FB.
Regardless of what he or other designers put on display for the Olympic’s board to consider, all will know eventually what the big dogs would choose for the 2020 Olympics.
